    Research Abstract

The joint laboratory BRAIN e-novation brings together the medical and research expertise of the Brain & Spine Institute (ICM) and the expertise of the GENIOUS group in health ICT to create innovative tools for carers and patients. The ICM is a research center of international dimensions without equivalent in the world, innovative both by design and organization located in the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital with a historical and excellence dimension in neurology. By bringing together under one roof patients, physicians and researchers, the objective is to produce rapid treatment of lesions affecting the nervous system and to apply them to patients in the speediest possible way. Coming from various horizons and all countries, the best scientists develop cutting-edge research in Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, psychiatric disorders…
Since 2009, GENIOUS invests in e-health R & D particularly in the serious games technology applied to health and has already carried out three health projects in partnership with academic laboratories and health experts.
With the ICT experience of the GENIOUS group and the research excellence of the ICM, the joint laboratory BRAIN e-novation will focus firstly on impaired balance and gait disorders in neurodegenerative diseases and secondly on motivation disorders. The research conducted during the first year will be dedicated to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying balance and gait disorders. During the second year and third year, BRAIN e-novation will design innovative rehabilitation tools with adaptive programs for care infrastructure (second year) and at home (third year). Several detailed steps are planned for three years and are described in the roadmap (see below). In the longer term, drawing by data obtained during these three years, the second issue on the motivation issues will be addressed specifically and thoroughly. Finally, the creation of the joint laboratory BRAIN e-novation is a unique opportunity to build a common logic between the ICM research and GENIOUS group R&D to develop validated tools and by considering rapid technology processes and market opportunities.
